Christmas fantasy - park, forest & lodge in xmas lights

I love this time of year there are so many festive events going on around Atlanta. Seeing all of the beautiful lights is one of my favorite things to do! Driving through neighborhoods and seeing the creativity people have and the different decorations really set the tone for the season. I also love going to the bigger light displays and activities that are available in the area.

Lake Lanier’s Magical Nights of Lights is so much fun! It is hard to believe that this is the 20th year for the event. The drive-through light display with miles and miles of lights is what brings most people to the Magical Nights of Lights, but there are many other things to do while you are there! There is a Holiday Village that has marshmallow roasting, a holiday shop, a live nativity, an ice skating rink and more.  The Magical Night of Lights runs through December 31st.

Another Atlanta favorite is Stone Mountain Christmas. Over two million lights illuminate the park. There is Wonderland Walkway where you will see the Snow Angel and her Toy Soldiers and a parade every night! New this year is a 4-D experience Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas. There are music and performances to enjoy and Santa of course.  The Stone Mountain Christmas runs through January 4th!

There is so much to do at both places and it is sure to be fun for everyone. Gather up friends and family and spend an evening enjoying the festivities that only come around once a year!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend! It started off with a wonderful Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International holiday party for me and my great co-workers. I truly work for a wonderful company and love my the AFH family!

The rest of the weekend revolved around showing properties to clients and time with my wonderful family!

On Friday I shared a Pinterest board with you about ideas for hosting a New Year’s Eve party at home. Today I have a video for you with ideas for hitting the town on New Year’s Eve. Obviously there are many more than I could include in the video, so look for some websites with more suggestions at the end of the video or follow these links to Atlanta.net and Open Table!

See you on Wednesday, when I will have a great property to share with you!

This morning I find myself thinking about Christmas decorations! You may have already begun decking the halls, but isn’t there always room for even more holiday cheer?  It seems impossible to resist all the delightful decorations that I see everywhere I go! And of course when one is looking for new ideas where do you go? Pinterest of course!

I put together a Pinterest board about Christmas decorations. Lots of wreath, mantle, tree skirt and table ideas to bring in some fresh looks to your holiday festivities. Some are DIY and others have links to where you can buy theme. I think many of them could be pulled together with a mix of what most people have a few new supplies! Now to decide which one I want to do first!

neutral and white mantle

Using white and neutral colors creates a soft soothing mantle

chevron table runner

Adding a simple chevron table runner puts a modern twist on traditional decorations.

polka dot and strip tree skirt

Nothing like polka dots and stripes to add a bit of fun to your tree skirt!

Adding a touch of burlap and an initial gives a traditional wreath a modern twist.

I talk a lot on my blog about getting your home ready for resale or what home buyers are looking for, but what about once you find your new home and it is time to transform it into your own? Many people when they are remodeling or putting their personal touches on a house, think about resale and try to find a compromise between what they really want versus what someone else would want if the house was for sale.

More and more people are looking at homes as long-term investments again, not something to buy and sell in two to three years. That should make us stop and rethink the way we decorate and redesign the inside of our house.  Do you know you plan to stay put for many years to come? So why not make it EXACTLY what YOU want? Are there rooms in your house that you just don’t use as they currently are? Maybe a dining  room or a quest bedroom? Make it a hobby room.

Craft Rooms

Center island work areas with shelving are popular ways to create a craft area quickly and easily.

In redesigning  a small bathroom, must you include a tub if you know you are never going to use?

If you have limited space and don’t use a tub make better use of the space by removing the tub and enlarging a shower. photo from johnwilliscustomhomes.com

Bathroom with no tub

Eliminating a bathtub can make a cramped space look bigger and provide more useful space.

What about that media room with multiple recliners that sounded so wonderful on paper and looked stunning in person? Now you realize that you don’t really want or need your own personal movie theater in your home, you want a multi-purpose space  for your friends and family to be together and actually have a conversation OR watch a movie.

If you are thinking about staying put for several years, go on and make it yours. Enjoy your new home. Put your personal touch on it, there is plenty of time to think about resale when you are ready to actually do that. When you are ready to sale your home, that is where I can help. We can talk and I can make recommendations that will help with resale value and making your home shine for the next buyer.

North Fulton county is home to some wonderful neighborhoods and communities. It has grown immensely over the past two decades and you can find just about every type of home, neighborhood, amenity, dining and shopping options within a few miles of just about anywhere in the county. Many new business have also come to the area in recent years.

Alpharetta is one of the communities that is thriving as the housing market improves. Seven of Atlanta’s top technology employers call Alpharetta home and Ernst & Young is bringing an IT division of their business to Alpharetta. Other industries are booming, as well and will be adding many jobs to the community over the next several years. The Avalon and GM combined will bring more than 5,000 jobs to the city and there are numerous others that will add jobs to the growing city. All of this means the housing market is prospering in Alpharetta.

Alpharetta is part of the award winning Fulton County school district. You can find information and rankings on Great Schools about the schools that serve the area.

There are often city events, such as the weekly food truck roundup and farmers market and more that will keep everyone happy. The Alpharetta city website has a full calendar of events, you will be delighted to see all the city has to offer.

There is a new City Center being built and Forbes has even named Alpharetta one of the friendliest towns in the country.

Did you know all of this about Alpharetta? The city has so much to offer a home buyer. It is a thriving community. If you haven’t visited the city to see all the wonderful neighborhoods and houses it has to offer, along with everything else, this would be the perfect weekend to do so!

Alpharetta is close to  MIlton and the historic area of Crabapple.  The three communities are closely entwined. I currently have two listings in Alpharetta and one in Milton. The Alpharetta listings are both located in the Waterside subdivision, a swim tennis community. It has just under 300 homes, has two lakes, a playground, and much more. While you are checking out what the city has to offer take a moment to see these homes.
