Fulton County Offers Free Irrigation System Workshop

Photo credit: Fulton County

Are you having difficulties with your property’s irrigation system? Or do you just want to learn about such systems? Fulton County’s Department of Water Resources will host a Smart Irrigation workshop at its Johns Creek Environmental Campus on July 24.

Participants will learn how to correctly use and maintain their irrigation system. A certified irrigation specialist will be on site to answer questions, according to the county’s news release.

The workshop will be offered on two dates:

  • Tuesday, July 17, 2012, 6 p.m.–7 p.m., Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Road, Atlanta, GA 30331
  • Tuesday, July 24, 2012, 6 p.m.-7 p.m. -Johns Creek Environmental Campus, 8100 Holcomb Bridge Rd, Roswell, GA 30022

During the session, residents will learn about essential maintenance tips to ensure that their irrigation system is always operating at its best. Some specific topics will include:

  • Programming irrigation controllers;
  • Inspecting the irrigation system for leaks;
  • Understanding how to adjust sprinkler head height, spray patterns and positions;
  • Rain sensor installation.

Bring questions about your specific irrigation system. To get accurate answers, make sure you know what specific type of system you have (Rain Bird, Hunter, Toro, etc.) and ensure that you can describe any specific challenges you are experiencing.

My three and a half year old son loves to be outside and to play!

Especially on these pretty spring days in Atlanta, we enjoy a playground in North Fulton at Wills Park.  It’s officially called Wacky World but  my son calls it “Castle Park”.

Located at 11925 Wills Road in Alpharetta, GA, Wills Park sits on 110 acres and offers Swimming, Equestrian, Baseball, Tennis, Frisbee Golf, Dog Park, Playgrounds, Walking Trails, Concerts, Rodeos, Dog Shows, Basketball Courts, Recreation Center, and the South’s famous Taste of Alpharetta.

Living in Alpahretta and in North Fulton of metro Atlanta is very fulfilling, especially with public parks that are as comprehensive and as nice as Wills Park.

Who is ready for SPRING?  Besides everyone, Master Gardeners around will all be marking their calendars for this event. Bloomin’ Designs Nursery in North Fulton has announced the North Fulton Master Gardener Faire at Historic Bulloch Hall in Roswell.

There’s (another) 16 year old Milton High School Student with a brand new driver’s license.  This story has a twist, as the new driver, Will Black, is a patient at Kool Kidz, Inc., which is a physical and occupational therapy center for kids from 0-21.  Check out this blog post where Will is the guest blogger and describes the steps he had to take to become a mad teenager behind the wheel.

Atlanta’s Runner’s Blog has a nice post this week describing a couple of great spots in Johns Creek to go for a run . If you’re in Milton and are looking to exercise but don’t necessarily want to go running, you can register for some of the city’s new recreation programs.

It is funny how so many people love to talk about, write about, and eat FOOD!  There’s a great recipe for Gluten Free Applesauce Oatmeal Muffins this week on Northside Food’s blog.   At Atlanta Restaurant Blog, Roswell’s Inc., Food, was where they reviewed and, among other things, they tried yucca and cactus French fries.

Lee at Roots in Alpharetta compiles a helpful monthly graph of the number of jobs posted by businesses in North Fulton.  Check out the North Fulton jobs chart to see if it is going up or down lately.

Last week at Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty, we had Brandon Beach from the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce speak at our sales meeting.  Read my recap about what three areas GNFCC is focusing on and how that has translated into new jobs for our area.  By the way, the Greater Fulton Business Expo will be hosted at the Marriott Hotel in Alpharetta on March 4.  Check out http://www.gnfccexpo.com/ for more information.

Please let me know if you would like to have your post considered to be included in future North Fulton Blog Round Ups!

Sometimes there are days when you find yourself eating out for all three meals.  While it may not be the nutritionist’s plan for you, it does happen.  On those days (or perhaps three separate days), here are my favorite three restaurants in North Fulton.

Best Breakfast in Alpharetta

Flying Biscuit Cafe.  An Atlanta tradition, now franchised in a dozen locations in the southeast, Flying Biscuit Cafe is more than a place to get yummy fresh biscuits. Their full entree breakfasts are heart-warming, and sometimes heart-healthy.  If you want to be particularly good, ask for the whole wheat biscuit.

Best Barbecue in Roswell  - for lunch

Swallow at the Hollow is a Roswell treasure.  Their home cooked smoked meats, sausage, homemade macaroni and cheese, and so many other menu items are delish.  In addition to a great meal, Swallow at the Hollow is well-known for its support of the music community in Atlanta and Nashville.

While lunch there is great, dinner is sometimes better because on weekend  nights they host Nashville’s premier singer/songwriter/artists in shows that start at 10:00p.m.  Local musicians appear at Swallow at the Hollow during the week. Great food and great music! What a combination!

Best Sushi in North Fulton – for dinner

Sushi Nami is North Fulton’s best sushi restaurant, located on Windward Parkway in Alpharetta.  They have the most creative rolls, a super wine list,  a nice atmosphere and great service.

Sushi Nami can be a little pricey, but totally worth it. You can tell others think it’s worth it too because sometimes the wait is a little long….so I recommend you make a reservation or arrive early.
