How exciting when I got up this morning and looked over local blogs to see a feature about all the wonderful places to eat in Roswell on

Atlantaeats.com. Now I will say I wasn’t overly fond of the first paragraph, but I know that there are many people that live inside the Perimeter that wouldn’t dream of venturing out to North Fulton to eat, but maybe this article will help them see what they are missing. As for the rest of us that already live in the are, if you haven’t been to one of these in the article make plans to go!

I love how they broke some of our favorites out into categories.

Breakfast

Most Important Meal of the Day

Thumbs Up Diner. This place has come a long way from its beginnings in the Old Fourth Ward. Now with five locations ITP and OTP, Thumbs Up serves great breakfasts at very reasonable prices from 7am to 3pm. If you have a hankering for the kind of diner where regulars sit and talk about the news of the day to each other and the serving staff, this is the place for you.

Brunch

It’s a Breakfast, It’s a Lunch, It’s Super Brunch

You can find food posing as brunch at a few places around town, but for the real deal, you have to head to J. Christophers. Whether it’s French toast, waffles, or eggs benedict (the dish by which all brunches should be judged), J.C’s is where you should head on a weekday mid-morning. If brunch with mimosas and a few friends is more your weekend speed, get yourself to Oak Street Cafe, grab a seat in the sunshine and start your weekend right.

Lunch

I Never Bring My Lunch

It’s tucked away a little bit, but Artisan Foods Bakery & Cafe a great lunch destination among many great lunch places. Sandwiches and salads are the order of the day (literally) here.

Take a break this weekend and celebrate the luck of the Irish!

I am thrilled about this new addition to the Alpharetta restaurant scene. We love Noche in Brookhaven or Virginia Highland and can’t wait to have one close to home!

Known for tasty tapas, tacos and stellar drink specials, Noche will be opening a new location in Alpharetta that promises to spice up the local flavor. Providing customers with casual indoor and patio atmospheres, this Atlanta favorite is sure to become an instant hot spot in the already renowned Alpharetta dining scene.

Perfect for small plate dining and drinks with friends, Noche has an established reputation as a venue for locals to meet, eat and enjoy the nightlife that the restaurant name suggests. The new Alpharetta location is slated to open on October 1.

Do you use OpenTable to make restaurant reservations? Brian and I love the simplicity of their online reservation system and the ability to make reservations in real-time from our computer or mobile app. After each OpenTable dining experience, they email a link to a Dining Feedback Form (which I have to admit I overlook at times!) but I found that they actually use the feedback to create lists of Atlanta’s best restaurants. Here is the list I just received by email with the ten best neighborhood gems throughout Atlanta.

  1. HOBNOB Neighborhood Tavern is currently OpenTable's #1 neighborhood gem restaurant based on diners' feedback.

  2. Com Dunwoody – Dunwoody
  3. The Cellar – Newnan

  7. Mali Restaurant – Virginia Highland
  8. B’s Bistro – Sandy Springs
  9. Adam’s American Mediterranean Restaurant and Piano Bar – Buford

So we recently went on our Thursday night date night….we have been working so hard so of course I was in “I deserve it” mode…not a good combination with wine:) And we ended up at a restaurant a client had told me about earlier in the day – Viande Rouge Steakhouse.

Owned by the same owners as 141, which is a wonderful Italian place so I knew we would love it. But I was not really wanting to eat steak or spend a lot on dinner…so we thought we would go and try a few appetizers and call it a night.

The decor inside Viande Rouge Steakhouse in Johns Creek was very romantic with red walls, dim lighting and cozy seating - perfect for a date night!

When we arrived at Viande Rouge, we were greeted by the nicest and most knowledgeable server…and I knew when he talked about the appetizers and wine list…well, we were eating dinner there for sure.

We began oysters that were very fresh, light and delicious. They came with a wonderful red wine vinegar dipping sauce that complimented them perfectly. Then the most heavenly warm spinach salad that they prepare for you at the table. The dressing was warm and light with the fresh spinach, nuts, cheese tossed in at the end. Honestly they had me at the warm spinach salad.

Then we had steaks – my husband ordered some enormous bone in fillet with crab and lobster on top of it. He could not even talk during dinner it was so good apparently. I had a filet and we ordered asparagus, mushrooms and onions.

All of it was delicious. I tried to only eat half and I ate every bite.

I would highly recommend Viande Rouge in Johns Creek to anyone for a date night.

Pampas Steakhouse AlpharettaPampas Steakhouse is an Argentinean steakhouse in the Johns Creek area and it is one of our favorite date night places in the area.

The restaurant decor is tastefully done, the service is excellent and the steaks…well they melt in your mouth.

They offer tapas as well but we never seem to try the tapas as we are always drawn to the steaks.

The wait staff actually allows you to pick your cut of meat (they bring the choices to your table) and then cook it to perfection. This is probably not the place for a vegetarian, although they do have some excellent seafood options. All of the sauces including their chimichurri sauce are just an added bonus to try with your entre.

Pampas Steakhouse is a wonderful restaurant for a special night out….go on, make a reservation and surprise someone! :)

Social Vinings is located in the heart of Vinings, just inside the Perimeter on Paces Ferry Road…..a hop, skip and a jump away from Smynings.

Social Vinings is known for its happening bar scene, hip patio, friendly atmosphere, nightly live bands, and good food.

Fried Oreo Cookies at Social Vinings

All of those things are wonderful features and experiences when dining at Social Vinings, but I must confess, my very favorite item on their menu, that I cannot get out of my mind are the Fried Oreo Cookies with Vanilla Ice Cream.

I have never tasted anything so lovely and rich, unique and fulfilling. Yum.

A few weeks ago my son and I went to Five Guys in Alpharetta…a mom and son lunch together. While not necessarily the healthiest place to take my 3 year old for lunch out on a Saturday, it is so delicious.

Five Guys Burgers & Fries

Five Guys Burgers & Fries

The smell of hamburgers and fresh cut french fries greets you as you open the door. It is a casual, family friendly atmosphere where you walk in and place your order, pay and then can sit down with peanuts to wait for your number called.

The hamburger and french fries (all cooked in peanut oil) are the staple but my son will tell you the hot dog is the winner.

If you are out and about and looking for really good burger in a fun & casual atmosphere then Five Guys is a perfect place to try.
